Black History
Black History Month is also referred to as African-American History month and, originated in 1926 as Negro History week. Celebrated the second week of February it encompassed the birth dates of Frederick Douglas and Abraham Lincoln. During the bicentenial of the US in 1976 then President Gerald Ford expanded it to the entire month. "He said the country needed to “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history."
When we celebrate Black History Month we educate all the ethnic bases from all over the US making them more aware of the struggles of such issues as the Civil Rights Movement, the racial divide between us and our current aura in the US. To unite us as one and remind each other that we all are the same except for the color of our skin. Let us all embrace this world as equals.
